The Mississippi Youth Community Gardens operates within a community where the average resident lives below the poverty line without access to proper medical care. Impoverished and very rural, The Mississippi Youth Community Gardens is hoping to eventually expand its program offerings to include job training and computer programming to better equip its residents with the tools they need to rise out of poverty. As much of the poverty within the Gunnison, MS is generational, Founder Bobbie Grammar states she 'welcomes the challenge'. Mrs. Grammer, whose three children are all grown and out of the home, says she 'cares deeply for the community' and is simply looking to 'do her part' in trying to alleviate some of the entrenched issues, such as poor health, facing the community'.
